A family classic, this smash hit Broadway musical, is based on the comic strip Little Orphan
Set during the Great Depression in 1930’s New York City, a plucky red-haired orphan named Annie is the voice of hope for her fellow orphans who live under the tyrannical supervision of Orphanage Intendant Miss Hannigan.
Annie’s spirit is fuelled by the belief that her real parents dropped her off at the orphanage with a half of a locket, promising to return for her someday with the other half. One day Annie’s luck changes when she is chosen, by Grace Farrell, personal secretary to conservative politician and billionaire Oliver Warbucks to spend time away from the orphanage at the Warbucks estate for a weeklong visit.
Annie quickly wins the hearts of servants and politicians alike, eventually even bringing her song of hope, “Tomorrow,” to President Roosevelt in Washington. Warbucks and Grace even go so far as to offer a reward for information about Annie’s parents, creating an opportunity for the spiteful Miss Hannigan, Rooster, her brother and girlfriend Lily to try and scam their way to the reward money.
